A vision for a tram network has been promoted in http://www.dpti.sa.gov.au/itlup/new_tram_network. http://www.dpti.sa.gov.au/itlup/new_tram_network The east branch is seen as the first stage of both a Norwood/Magill line and the City loop. The northbound branch could continue to Prospect. There were proposals for conversion of the Port Adelaide, Outer Harbour and Grange rail lines to tram operation, but a series of upgrades and projects on the heavy rail in recent years has made the tram conversion increasingly unlikely. The latest project at Torrens Junction is eliminating the surface crossing of the Port line and the ARTC freight line and the abolition of three level crossings in the Bowden area where a new subsurface station is being constructed.
