In fact there were noise barriers before, made of wood and sort-of green. They were much less obtrusive.

The concrete monstrosities are much more obvious, taller and placed higher.

Hopefully they will at least reduce the traffic roar for those with the Smith St Motorway in their backyards.

Someone told me that dealing with sound barrier 'engineers' was as difficult as dealing with traffic light 'engineers'. Enuf said!
