Height of trolley wire
  Roger Greenwood

Mal Rowe concluded (by pseudo-scientific analysis) that< the Geelong trolley
wire is about 18" or 45cm higher > than other Victorian tramways.

The height of Bendigo's trolley wire was initially higher than in Melbourne,
leading to:

.. The necessity for trolley bases with stronger springs than used in
Melbourne

.. The trolley poles of re-cycled Melbourne trams being inclined at a
higher angle when put into use in Bendigo.

The height of Bendigo's trolley wire was subsequently lowered, probably to
accord with Melbourne's.

Perhaps the long-term 'over-height' of the Geelong trolley wire was the
cause of Len Millar's amusement at the photograph of Geelong No 32 (an
ex-MMTB bogie car) at T & G corner (Moorabool & Ryrie St) fitted with MMTB
No 15 trolley bases, as expressed in his post of Aug 2.
