Yarra Trams policy is to clean points only on demand.
If a Driver calls Fleet to complain about sand in points the track people will go and clean out the points.
Frequently I would have to shovel sand out of points with the Points Bar to be able to change them.
On one occasion I was told to shunt at Kooyong to return to Kew, but the points were rock solid.
I had to wait about 5 or so minutes to when the track cleaners arrived. Not only did they have to clean out the points blades, but also the pit itself was full of sand. They left quite a mess of sand on the road.
