Geelong tram - and trains

Here's another pic at the Geelong Railway station terminus.

You can see a passenger brake van in the background. The trams were
right at the station and reached it via a short branch off the North
Geelong route.

Looking at the pic, it occurred to me that the design of most Victorian
tram systems ignored the trains - or even purposely set out to steal
traffic from them.

I can only think of a few instances where there was an obvious effort to
make the connection:

* The Victorian Railways tram lines (of course!)

* The original Bendigo battery / steam tramway

* The Footscray lines (they had to get their traffic from somewhere!)

Sydney seems to have had a much more integrated approach from the outset
(of course), but the integration of Melbourne and Victorian tram and
heavy rail transit systems is relatively recent - dating from the
establishment of the Public Transport Corporation replacing the old
competitive tramway / railway bodies.
