ATP and trams is not even particularly unique.

Dubai use ATP and station approach auto-brake to ensure the tram doors
align with the station platform doors.

Sevilla Metro uses Urbos2 LRVs as it's rolling stock. They have ATO. A
trip I made in Sevilla , I watched the driver press a button labelled
'ATO', it lit up and he proceeded to read a book while the coupled set
drove itself the rest of the trip. Which lead me to wonder why they
bothered having drivers in the first place, a 'safety driver' reading a
book isn't actually a whole lot of use, particularly safety wise. Sure
if the ATO failed and alarm sounded he could intervene, but completely
useless for intervening due to track obstruction.
I also wondered why a completely grade separated Metro would want to use
low floor rolling stock with all the compromises that entails.

I think Madrid has ATP on Citadis too - one of the modifications for
Adelaide was to remove the ATP. The Madrid trams have ATP due to the
amount of tunnel running they do where the driver has restricted vision
ahead.

And the Japanese love ATO. I'm sure some of those Japanese light rail
lines have quite high degrees of automation. Because they can.
