Years ago, 1993 IIRC, when visiting Melbourne for a work visit to the Williamstown shipyard to see the new frigates being made there, the van I was in went along the freeway there before diverting to Moonee Ponds (no Bolte Bridge or anything back then).

Good gunzel that I was, I looked out for the tram terminus and thought -- to my surprise -- that the tracks went way past the terminus and curved around to the north-west.

This was pre-home internet of course, so it was my first realisation that the line had been extended to Airport West! The shopping centre part I mean.
