Hi Tony,

The H car and the two W2 cars are privately owned by Shane Moore, who once had a lease on the North Fitzroy tram depot, where they were stabled. They were in excellent condition and the W2 cars actually ran a few gunzel tours.. Unfortunately for Shane, his lease was terminated and the depot was reclaimed as a running shed for the trams running the City Circle service. His trams were then moved to Preston Workshops, where they deteriorated in open storage. Just recently, Preston Workshops also became a running shed (and major maintenance facility), and the three trams must have been moved off that site by road, to the back of Newport Railway Workshops, where they now sit forlornly.

A sad tale indeed.

Cheers,

Andrew.

And I thought “demolition by neglect” was the NSW way of buggering “preserved” heritage.

BTW why is H car 368 at Newport ?

Several trams were noticed lingering out the back of Newport Railway Workshops on Sunday, 16-7-2017, looking very derelict. One (907) was also placed in the Steamrail area, and appears to be in use as a meeting room of some sort.

Cheers,

Andrew (who thinks that rust will soon set in, courtesy of closeness to Port Phillip Bay!).
