Years ago when Preston Workshops had tradesmen skilled in restoring W class trams (they clearly don’t now viz the W8 conversions in Bendigo) I thought it would be a good idea to fully overhaul redundant Ws and sell them overseas. Cities in the US were paying Gomaco and others a small fortune to build them new old-style trams. The profits could have been used to maintain a limited number of Ws in Melbourne.
The fossils in the Victorian National Trust had other less sensible ideas.
