It's probably not helpful to ascribe motives to people without asking them if it's so.
The nature of email is that it's sometimes a bit difficult to separate hyperbole from heart felt comment.

One thing that puzzles me is why people (like 'Grumpy') who obviously don't like to travel on public transport as a passenger take so much interest in it as a hobby or interest.
I can think of a couple of other listmembers who express the same attitude - including one who is very active making photographs - always from his car seat or nearby. This latter listmember even posted a message once to say he never used public transport when getting out to take photos as it was too unreliable!

Do they see public transport as mainly about entertainment?

I attach a pic made 'over the chauffer's shoulder' of the view from the comfort of my seat in my brand new multi million dollar air conditioned and comfortable mode of tranport last week.

Mal Rowe - who thinks public transport is about 'moving people not vehicles' - to quote an old slogan.
