Here's one example of what Melbourne uses at some roundabouts - in this case North Essendon where the tramway turns into Keilor Rd from Mt Alexander Rd.

The white LED "GIVE WAY TO TRAMS" sign flashes.
(I had to take a series of pics to get one with both the sign and the tram destination both showing!)
Roundabouts are a particular problem in that trams are an exception to the 'once you are in the roundabout you have right of way' rule.
Simliar signs were at the Haymarket - I'm not sure if they were removed when the intersection had traffic lights installed.
