Re: Glenelg - Jetty Rd Works

Nice photos Alex. It's interesting that in Adelaide they transition happily from ballasted track to street track and back again without the issues that TfNSW seems to have in NSW with running compatibility between CSELR and IWLR.

I note from the timetable that Adelaide no longer seems to turn any trams at South Terrace which is interesting as most of the patronage is in the city. This seems to suggest that either Glenelg is over-supplied with trams or the city section is short of capacity. I guess everything will change in a big way however when the North Terrace extension is built. It will be interesting to see how they intend to run the trams when they suddenly have four ways to go here. I hope they do the northern extension over the river as soon as possible.

David,
Here is a photo taken today at the same location. 108 is passing the fitness centre which was built on the site of the cinema a year or two ago.

Some stretches of rail are corrugated although it can be difficult to see and photograph as the rails are highly polished with all the rubber-tyred traffic. Here is a shot where it shows up on both rails.

In Jetty Rd the present rail is plain whereas as Mal noted the replacement will be low profile grooved rail. However the terminus at Moseley Sq is grooved rail. This shot shows the transition from plain to grooved just E of the Square.

My previous post got the dates of the closure slightly wrong. It is May 15 - June 9 as can be seen in posters which have appeared on the litter bins in Jetty Rd.

During the closure trams will terminate at Stop 15 Brighton Rd. Here is a shot of 205 at the crossover which will be used to reverse the trams.
