That was exactly my thought, William.

However I just had a look at my latest YouTube video which is a Driver's View of the line for a train that terminated at Blackburn. From there, the line drops away noticeably in the distance.

The station certainly is not in a hollow but there are no overhead bridges so presumably the water is in an underground passage to the station.

The newspaper report was somewhat minimal but made no mention of trains been terminated.
