There's nothing wrong with short-workings, the trams just need to get clear of the running tracks to turn around. I don't agree with the idea of express trams on IWLR. The existing trams just need to haul ass instead of pottering around like grandpa in the garden, a common problem with "modern light rail". That doesn't mean higher maximum speed, it means quick dwells (requiring plenty of doors) and full acceleration and deceleration, maintaining line speed as long as possible. In other words, practising the art of trams, not the art of suburban railways. Think of trams operationally as buses, not trains.
