RE: Portland today

Have any tramway museum experts considered the possibility of operation of a restored grip equipped cable tram propelled by a real endless cable driven by a steam engine in a ‘winding house’ ?

The Portland Cable tram is a great piece of local tourism based on
'imported history'.

In it's 15 years of operation to date it has carried over 160,000
passengers and is nearly all volunteer run.

I suspect the quoted 7.4km route may be for a return trip - but it's a
great ride with wonderful views, including the small section of street
running that I chose to share with you.
There are two cable train sets, both comprising restored Melbourne
trailers and locally built 'grip cars' powered by tractor engines and
fitted with disc brakes!
