Re: (TAN)Trump budget proposes cuts to urban transport grants - Metro Report

It's discretionary spending for a federal government as it is in Australia. In theory I would actually expect a Republication administration to philosophically want to wipe it out altogether (and we still don't know what's to come from Congress).

So the administration has some different financial priorities and wants to cut it a mere 13% down to $16 ***billion***, big whoop. How does that compare with Australian federal discretionary contribution to urban transit? It makes the USA look almost communist. As in Australia I reckon it's time for them to pause and look at value for money, effectiveness and capacity to meet future demand for some of these light rail projects that have sometimes turned out rather underwhelming.

Turnbull had the right ideas when he booted Abbott and Gold Coast got some money, but I get the impression that to keep his job he's held in an iron clamp and it seems that the deep Liberal Party is not going to let that happen too much again. The states just have to continue to get on with it as always. The biggest problem as always is to get various state governments to actually spend money on PT rather than roads.

Anyone believing Trump’s “promise” to increase infrastructure funding “bigly” ought to look at this :

The only “infrastructure” Trump’ll spend money on is border walls, gaols and tollroads to be operated by his mates.

What a surprise…..
