I think inattention is as old as Homo sapiens. Traditionally it was due to looking at a member of the opposite sex walking by. Many lamp posts bear the imprint of that. Blocking off hearing with buds in the ears has given it a dangerous new dimension though. Then there's the Skoda 15T but that's hardly the pedestrian's fault. The trolleybus is another.
