Dick.
I found the old Box Brownie handy for time exposures, especially if I forgot a tripod.A luggage trolley at Central & Spencer St Stations came in handy many times to place camera for photos.
I notice Pratts own the Safeway Store in the background. It is those details, that I look out in the photos

Matron, I can relate to your hangup with the dreaded Box Brownie.

Having only a Box Brownie (Model D but that was immaterial) and the associated stigma (stigmae?) of being seen with one, as well as being seen taking photos of trams, resulted in my not taking photos of trams in Sydney (apart from a few blurred results taken from locations where I could not be seen).

The 1/60 of a second shutter speed required an extremely steady hand.

I did take a few photos with it in Melbourne in 1963 following which it was promptly retired and only a few years later I was armed with two Pentax(es/ae) - but that's yet another story. The hangups of taking photos of trams disappeared along with the Box Brownie's relegation to permanent storage, now unused for 49 years.

To remain on topic, here's a photo taken with the Brownie replacement, a Kodak instamatic, of Y1 612 in service and at Burwood in December 1964. This camera thus ended my association with Kodak cameras.

Regards

Dick
